The Bois des Dames Trail is a 5.6 km loop located in Chaudfontaine , Belgium. This route offers a diversity of landscapes, ranging from dense forests to calamine moors , resulting from a unique adaptation of vegetation to soils rich in zinc and lead. Hikers can also enjoy panoramic views over the Vesdre Valley and discover the charming village of Ninane .
The starting point is at the Source O Rama car park.
From the parking lot, take Rue des Belles Fontaines and follow the yellow marker number 3. The trail begins with a gentle climb through the Bois des Dames , offering an immediate immersion in a soothing forest environment.
As you progress, the landscape transforms, giving way to calamine moors , areas where vegetation has adapted to metalliferous soils. This rare phenomenon offers a unique ecosystem to observe.
The route then leads to the picturesque village of Ninane , where hikers can admire the local architecture and experience the typical atmosphere of the region.
After passing through Ninane, the trail descends towards Chaudfontaine, offering breathtaking views of the Vesdre Valley along the way. The loop ends at the starting point, near the Source O Rama park, where a playground and children's facilities are available.
